Birth Services

For greater peace of mind I will always aim to work with a second doula which in London is Lucy Symons. Lucy is also a professional hypnotherapist and can bring these skills to your birth if you choose. Lucy was one of the three finalists in the Doula of the Year Awards (2009).

Between us we are able to give much informational support, discuss the option of a home birth, which hospital, a VBAC and/or water birth, the Pink Kit, the constraints of SPD etc go through birth plans, support you through medical tests, discuss issues that may be of concern and help out practically if the need arises.

Usually we will support only one birth at a time. Throughout labour and birth I will remain with you if this is what you wish.

My overall intention is to stay focussed on you, your state of mind and your interpretation of the experience whatever interventions or surveillance mechanism may be necessary. I can validate your confidence in your own abilities to achieve an optimal birth experience no matter what the circumstances and outcome. I will be unobtrusive - aiming to create an ideal environment in which to birth - where a mother feels safe and unobserved. Providing comfort and security for the mother yet knowing instinctively when to remain silent and when to leave the birth room unless the mother wishes otherwise.
Births have ranged from the often 100% physiological both at home and in hospital including water VBACs, to the occasionally necessary epidural, ventouse, Caesarean etc.

"I know I would have panicked without Maggie and ..... for helping me believe that I could have a normal labour."

***

"She kept my partner so calm he actually went to bed for a few hours sleep whilst labour progressed. Once in the hospital Maggie continued to be a soothing presence, so that my partner actually ended up participating in the birth."

***

"That first conversation with her changed everything – I felt much more empowered and, in following her excellent advice, ended up with a midwife who delivered baby at home."

***

"One of her strengths was in being able to motivate me to be strong and able to keep calm through my labour."

"Thank you again for all your help. Because of you I can say that giving birth is wonderful and that with faith, no fear and support this can be achieved. For me, just your simple presence was very comforting and I knew that you will take care of me, V, V and baby. I will always be grateful to you for helping me in such life defining moments."

"I just wanted to say a huge thank you for all the help, support and guidance that you provided for J this week. As tough and hard as it was for J it was an amazing experience, one made all the easier by your experience and professionalism. Little S is doing great!
